“Did you know…Overseas airlines are auctioning off upgrades?”

New York-based Plusgrade, a sophisticated software auction platform that enables airlines to offer travelers the opportunity to upgrade their travel experience, may be powering a new trend in air travel, awards and upgrades.

The Wall Street Journal reports that airlines overseas have started auctioning off upgrades, with travelers in economy or premium-economy cabins bidding against each other for seats that offer better space, food, service and sleep.  Plusgrade’s chief executive, Ken Harris, stated in an interview with WSJ that the auction technology may be coming to the U.S. soon.

“Did you know…Travelers are frustrated over furlough-caused flight delays?”

In an attempt to cut $637 million from its budget, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is furloughing workers, including an estimated 13,000 air traffic controllers.

According to USA Today, the FAA’s plan to furlough 47,000 will result in $200 million in cuts.  Travelers are not feeling the love according to the report, travelers are increasingly complaining about spending hours at airport gates or on tarmacs as flight delays continue for a third straight weekday with fewer air-traffic controllers on the job.  Read the entire article on USAToday.com.

We talked with Martin Lumbye, partner of Momondo.com, some time ago.  They specialize in hip Euro travel and their unique travel by color/mood option is similar in some respects to UTrip.  Do you see Momondo as a competitor?

Utrip was created to bridge the massively fragmented travel market and to add a highly personal touch to traveler’s plans. “Did you know…Airlines waive fees for Boston flight changes?”

After the horrific double bombing at yesterday’s Boston Marathon, USA Today reports that airlines are waiving all fees associated with flight changes into and out of Boston.

“All of the nation’s biggest airlines have instituted flexible rebooking policies, including American, Delta, Southwest, United and US Airways,” reports USA Today. “Also waiving fees for Boston customers is JetBlue, the busiest carrier at Logan airport.” Read the full story here.

Located between the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde, this verdant public park is an ideal spot to enjoy an afternoon picnic and do some people-watching while letting the spring breeze rustle your hair.

To the north, the Montmartre neighborhood is a good spot to experience the bohemian lifestyle of old Paris (when it’s not utterly overrun with summer tourists). Visit the majestic dome of Sacré-Coeur and snap a few photos of the fantastic panoramic view. On your way down, check out the hill’s main square – Place du Tertre – and maybe you’ll score a piece of art from an aspiring artist.

At the end of the day, head to Pont des Arts to catch the stunning sunset over the Seine. As the stars creep out on a warm spring night, gaze over the water as street performers play smooth jazz tunes, and experience that storied romance of the City of Lights.
